Arson in Yinchuan, Ningxia kills 17 people – 银川

A suspected arson in Yinchuan, Hui AutnonomusNingxia (North China) in the morning of January 5th, 2016 killed 17 people and left more than thirty people injured. According to the CCTVNEWS, the 34-year-old suspect Ma Yongping was surrounded by government forces and later arrested on the same day. The local Yinchuan government had later released an official statement that he is a major suspect.

While officials said first that 14 people were killed, they upgraded the number of deaths later to 17. The mayor of Yinchuan was quoted that after a second search they found more bodies on the bus. All of the injured people are treated by Ningxia Medical University General Hospital, with seven in intensive care while the rest was fortune enough to escape the fire with only minor injuries.
The fire was reported around 7 a.m. when the bus passed by a nearby mall. At that time, the bus had about 40 people on board. A safety check for all the buses which the company owns began following the incident, all public buses are now running normally.
